Former U.S. President Joe Biden's presidential library will be built in his home state of Delaware, his office said on Saturday.
Biden, who served as president for four years until January 2025, represented Delaware for 36 years in the U.S. Senate before becoming vice president for President Barack Obama.
He ran for president in 2020, beating President Donald Trump, and took office in 2021. Last year, he ran for re-election, only to step aside after a disastrous debate against Trump.
Former Vice President Kamala Harris became the Democratic presidential nominee instead and lost to Trump in November.
Biden has ties to nearby Pennsylvania, but his longtime home state won out for the presidential library. The exact location has not yet been determined.
Biden and his wife, Jill, have houses in two places in Delaware: Wilmington and Rehoboth Beach.
The library will include space for large events and a museum, a spokesperson said, and will highlight Biden's work to bring the country out of the COVID-19 pandemic, boost infrastructure and strengthen international alliances.
Board members of the Joe and Jill Biden Foundation include diplomat and Democratic fundraiser Rufus Gifford, former Secretary of State Antony Blinken, former Biden advisers Steve Ricchetti and Cedric Richmond, and former White House budget director Shalanda Young.
