The Member of Parliament for Tano North and spokesperson for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr Gideon Boako, has hit back strongly at claims made by the Tano North Constituency Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and staff of the Ghana Revenue Authority in Sunyani, Stephen Ntiamoah, accusing him of spreading falsehoods about his support for the former Vice President.
Mr Ntiamoah is alleged to have told delegates that Dr Boako only supports Dr Bawumia out of loyalty, despite believing he has no chance of winning the 2028 elections.
However, in a sharp rebuttal, Dr Boako dismissed the remarks as “wicked lies” and questioned the credibility of the constituency secretary, suggesting that his conduct has long been compromised, including allegations of bribery during his tenure at the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
Dr Boako emphasised that his support for Dr Bawumia is rooted in conviction, not convenience. He said the NPP flagbearer for the 2024 polls has demonstrated credibility, experience and leadership qualities unmatched by any other contender.
“If anyone doubts Dr Bawumia’s strength, the appropriate path is to win the primaries with facts and strategy, not with lies and character assassination,” he stated.
Reaffirming his loyalty to his constituency and to Dr Bawumia, Dr Boako pointed to the overwhelming 83% vote the Vice President received in Tano North during the 2023 primaries as proof of their commitment.
He urged party members to ignore divisive tactics and remain united.
“We will not be distracted by lies or fabricated stories. The NPP’s victory in 2028 lies in discipline, hard work and truth, not deception,” he said.
