Ghana’s Abdul-Rasheed Saminu has been drawn in a highly competitive semi-final of the men’s 100 metres at the 2025 World Athletics Championships, where he will line up against some of the fastest sprinters in the world.
Saminu, whose season and personal best stands at 9.84s, will contest Heat 3 against a field stacked with both raw speed and proven championship experience.
Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo, one of the sport’s brightest young talents, arrives with a 9.86s personal best. He's silver medalist from the last World Champs and 200m gold medallist from the Paris Olympics.
He won his heat on Day One of the Tokyo World Champs with a finish of 10.07s.
Canada’s Andre De Grasse, a former and World and Olympic champion, carries a wealth of experience despite entering with a modest season’s best of 10.15s.
This semi-final sets up a rematch, with Tebogo, Lindsey and De Grasse all having faced each other in Heat Five, where the Botswanan won in 10.07s, followed by the Canadian in 10.16s and the American in 10.19s.
Jamaica’s Oblique Seville, currently ranked fourth in the world this season with a best of 9.83s, will also be a part of this line up.
South Africa’s Gift Leotlela (9.87 PB), Nigeria’s Israel Okon (10.03 SB), and Great Britain’s Romell Glave (10.00 PB) complete the line-up, all capable of capitalising if the favourites falter.
Qualification rules state that only the first two finishers in each semi-final, plus the next two fastest across all heats, will progress to the final scheduled for Sunday.
