Ghana’s Ambassador to China, Kojo Bonsu, has congratulated the University for Development Studies (UDS) football team for making history by winning the 2025 FISU University World Cup Football Championship in Dalian, China.
UDS defeated Brazil’s Paulista University 2–1 in a thrilling final to clinch the prestigious global title, marking a landmark achievement for Ghanaian university sports.
UDS became the first African university to win the competition, which was held in China.
In a statement issued on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama and the people of Ghana on Sunday, September 28, 2025, Kojo Bonsu praised the players, technical team, and management for their dedication and discipline, which secured the victory.
“This remarkable achievement is a testament to your hard work, discipline, and unyielding determination. By excelling on the international stage, you have lifted high the flag of Ghana and brought honour not only to your university but to the entire nation,” Kojo Bonsu said.
He further noted that the team’s success should inspire young athletes across Ghana, reinforcing the values of teamwork, resilience, and excellence.
Ambassador Bonsu described the triumph as a proud moment for Ghana, emphasising the potential of the country’s youth to achieve greatness globally when given the right support and opportunities.
