The Sports Minister, Kofi Adams has announced sweeping reforms to prioritise the health and safety of boxers in Ghana following the death of Nigerian pugilist Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju at the Bukom Boxing Arena.
He said the government would implement comprehensive medical protocols, strengthen doping controls in partnership with the National Anti-Doping Agency, and establish a robust Medical Commission to oversee the welfare of athletes.
“These measures are essential to protect our athletes and uphold the integrity of our competitions,” he said, adding that the reforms were not about personalities but about safeguarding the future of boxing in Ghana.
The new Interim Management Committee has been directed to enforce these protocols while restructuring the Professional Boxing Association to ensure accountability and professionalism.
