Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has been granted bail following his appearance before the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.
He was granted bail in the sum of GH¢1 million with two sureties, which he has successfully met.
Three mining-related charges are expected to be preferred against him on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at the High Court in Accra.

Wontumi was invited by the CID on Monday, October 6, 2025, for questioning over alleged involvement in illegal mining activities.
His appearance followed an ultimatum from Attorney-General Dr. Dominic Ayine, who warned last Friday that the NPP regional chairman would be arrested if he failed to report to the police.
His lead counsel, Andy Appiah-Kubi, earlier told journalists that his client was ready to cooperate fully with investigators but cautioned against any attempt to revoke his existing police enquiry bail, describing such a move as one that would be “vigorously resisted.”
