Two construction workers who stole 15 boxes of floor tiles worth GH¢4,000 have been sentenced to three years imprisonment each.
Abdul Ganuie, 28, a mason, and Godwin Akpai, 31, a carpenter, were jailed by the Adenta Circuit Court after going through a full trial.
Ganuie and Akpai were charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, to wit, stealing.
The court, presided over by Mrs Sarah Nyakoa Nkansa, who commenced hearing in March 2025, found them guilty at the end of the trial and sentenced them to three years in hard labour.
The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, said the complainant, Frank Hadzi, was a foreman at a firm (name withheld) and a resident of Accra.
Chief Inspector Lanyo said the two convicts were residents of Adenta Aviation and labourers with a company.
On March 12, 2025, at about 3:00 pm, the accused persons, now convicts, hired a Hyundai Getz with registration number GW-6880-22 to the company’s warehouse located at Adenta Aviation.
The convicts then packed 15 boxes of floor tiles into the car.
Prosecution said one of the workers at the site saw them and raised the alarm.
When Ganuie and Akpai were interrogated, they told the complainant that they were taking the tiles to Abossey Okai to sell.
They were arrested and brought to the Police Station, the prosecution said.
The court heard that Ganuie and Akpai admitted the offence in their investigation caution statement.
