Ghanaian comedian and skit maker, MJtheComedian, has revealed that one of his comedy videos saved a fan who was on the verge of ending his life.
Speaking to Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, MJtheComedian said skit-making is not just for entertainment but also serves as therapy for many people who are going through difficult times.
“A gentleman nearly committed suicide. He once texted me that he needed to meet me,” he recounted.
According to MJtheComedian, the man took him to a restaurant and told him to order anything he wanted. Later, the man sent him a touching message explaining how one of his videos changed his life.
Part of the message read:
“The reason why I admire you and always want to have dinner with you.
Sometime last year, I was going through a lot, I had a child and I was going through mental challenges and child support things. It was too much for a young man like me. So I thought of giving up in life cos I didn’t want all these. That afternoon I bought a drug to take and then I’d die when I sleep. So I was trying to do my last things on my phone and I came across your video for the first time in my life. I didn’t even know anything about you. So I watched the video and then it touched me. It got me laughing out loud cos I haven’t laughed in a very very long time and I thought the world was shut on me. Your video saved my life that day. I came to understand that life was full of joy and happiness if we can find it. I threw the medicine away and then went back watching more of your videos. This is the reason I appreciate you so much bro. I really love your work. Your work saved my life. I owe you a great debt and I don’t know how I can ever repay you. I’m so grateful bro.”
MJtheComedian said the encounter deeply moved him and strengthened his belief in the power of comedy to heal and inspire.
MJtheComedian, known for his hilarious skits on social media, has grown to become one of Ghana’s most recognised online comedians. He has headlined shows such as Laughline and Comedy Express, featured in events like Lord of the Ribs and Night of 1027 Laughs, and collaborated with top Ghanaian entertainers on numerous viral comedy sketches. He is also known for his annual Dashiki Festival.
