President John Dramani Mahama has urged the Black Stars to make history after booking a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana sealed qualification with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium, courtesy of a close-range strike from Mohammed Kudus.
Reflecting on the nation’s World Cup journey, Mahama recalled the heartbreaking 2010 quarterfinal loss to Uruguay, when Asamoah Gyan missed a late penalty that could have sent Ghana to the semi-finals.
Citing Morocco’s remarkable 2022 campaign when they became the first African nation to reach the last four, Mahama called on the team to dream even bigger this time.
“We must follow in the footsteps of Morocco by going beyond the semi-finals and, who knows, with fingers crossed, bring the World Cup trophy home to make Ghana and Africa proud,” Mahama told Sporty FM.
“We must all rally behind the Black Stars. We must support them to the hilt. Let’s not bring in any partisan or ethnic considerations. Let’s give them our full support,” he added.
The Black Stars will learn their group opponents when the 2026 World Cup draw is held on December 5, 2025, at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
