The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has commended Operation Walk, a global medical outreach programme, for restoring hope to patients and easing the financial burden of orthopedic surgeries in Ghana.
During a visit to the St. Joseph Hospital in Koforidua, the Minister praised the initiative for providing life-changing surgical care to Ghanaians who previously faced costs of up to GH₵70,000.

He described the intervention as “both lifesaving and economically transformative,” noting that it has enabled many to regain mobility and return to productive lives.
Mr Akandoh revealed that discussions are underway between the Ministry of Health and Operation Walk to extend similar services to the northern, central, and other underserved regions of the country.

“Government will do whatever it takes to strengthen this partnership and ensure these missionary services reach other parts of the country,” he stated.
He also encouraged individuals and organizations seeking to donate medical supplies or equipment to do so through the Ministry, ensuring transparency and equitable distribution.
“These are the kinds of partnerships Ghana needs,” he added, pledging the Ministry’s continued support for initiatives that bring relief and restore dignity to patients nationwide.

The Director of Operation Walk, Kimberly Murray, expressed appreciation to the Ministry for its collaboration and commended the Ghanaian medical team for their professionalism and dedication.
She said the teamwork between local and international surgeons continues to transform lives and strengthen Ghana’s surgical capacity.
