Flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mahamudu Bawumia, has urged party supporters to critically reflect on the party’s performance in the 2024 general elections if they want to secure victory in 2028.
Speaking in the Sene East constituency during the launch of his “Our Journey Together” campaign on Wednesday, October 15, Dr Bawumia stressed that a careful assessment of the party’s weaknesses and strengths would be key to charting a winning strategy.
He noted that the NPP lost more than two million votes compared to the 2020 election, while the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) won by a margin of about 1.7 million votes. Despite this, he said the results show a solid foundation for a strong comeback.
“We have to look at where we fell short and work together to rebuild. Even though the NDC won by about 1.7 million votes, our numbers are still strong. If we engage our base, strengthen our unity, and bring new energy, we can win again in 2028,” Dr Bawumia told supporters.
He emphasised that party unity and active engagement with grassroots supporters will be crucial in reversing the outcome of the 2024 elections.
Dr Bawumia’s call comes as part of broader efforts to rally the party behind a common vision ahead of the upcoming flagbearer primaries slated for January 31, 2026.
