Flagbearer hopeful for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, concluded his comprehensive campaign tour of the Bono East Region with a bold commitment to leverage the gains of Ghana's digital revolution to deliver "world-class development" if elected President.

The tour, which saw him visit all 11 constituencies in the region, served as a platform for the former Vice President to showcase his record of innovation as the fundamental proof of his presidential capability.

Dr. Bawumia framed his vision not around promises but around tangible achievements in technology and digital governance, arguing that his success in this area demonstrates his capacity to revolutionise public service delivery and economic growth.

Addressing supporters, Dr. Bawumia contended that Ghana was no longer a follower but a leader in several key digital metrics, positioning the nation favourably against developed economies.

“Ghana has shown that we can lead the world in digital innovation. What we have achieved so far is just the beginning,” he assured the crowd.

He highlighted three signature initiatives driven under his leadership, complete with updated data and comparative facts:

1. Ghana Card (National ID): Dr. Bawumia asserted that the implementation and integration of the Ghana Card place the country ahead of others, stating, “The Ghana Card has placed us ahead of countries like the UK, which is now working to build a similar system.” The card's functionality as a unified digital identity, e-passport, and soon-to-be-activated e-wallet feature is central to his digitalization agenda. The National Identification Authority (NIA) is aggressively expanding the system, which currently has over 17.6 million cards issued, far surpassing the European Union's 2030 digital ID mandate.
2. Mobile Money Interoperability (MMI): The MMI system, launched in 2018, eliminated barriers between competing mobile money networks, drastically improving financial inclusion. Dr. Bawumia presented compelling growth figures: “Mobile money accounts have grown from 8 million to 24 million, and agents have increased from about 107,000 to nearly 900,000 — all because of the interoperability system.” This growth is corroborated by Bank of Ghana data, which shows that active mobile money accounts stood at 11.11 million in 2017 (before MMI fully took effect) and rose to 24.5 million by mid-2025. The total value of mobile money transactions for 2024 stood at a record GH¢3.0192 trillion.
3. Zipline Drone Delivery: Ghana, he stressed, hosts the world's largest medical drone delivery network, operated by Zipline International. The system, which operates from four distribution centers, serves over 2,000 health facilities and covers approximately 12 million people across the country, ensuring the rapid, on-demand delivery of crucial medical supplies like blood, vaccines, and anti-venom to hard-to-reach areas. This innovation dramatically reduces delivery times from days to often under 45 minutes.

The NPP Flagbearer stressed that his work as Vice President was not an end in itself but a foundation for a modern, efficient state.

His presidency, he promised, would focus on building on these digital gains to drive innovation, enhance public services, and transform livelihoods.

“When you vote for me, I will bring world-class development,” he assured. “What I have done as Vice President shows that I can and will do even more as President.”

His final pitch to the electorate is a direct appeal to trust his demonstrated competence in delivering technological solutions as a proxy for his ability to solve broader national development challenges.
