Gremio forward Francis Amuzu has rejected claims of wanting to switch allegiance to Ghana only for the World Cup after declaring his intention to play for the Black Stars.
The 26-year-old, who turned down the opportunity to play for the senior national team in 2022, has now publicly availed himself for a possible call-up.
His announcement came just a few days after the Black Stars sealed qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
“I was born in Ghana, so I'm happy that they qualified for the World Cup. It's a wonderful tournament also to play,” said Amuzu, a statement that has seen many label him as an “opportunist.”
However, the attacker is open to invitations before or after the global tournament.
"If it's for the World Cup, it will be nice,” he told Asempa FM.
"If it's after the World Cup, it's also nice, I will be happy. It is a dream for me to play for the national team Ghana.
"I know also that I have to perform well to get a call-up. If it [call-up] comes, good. If it doesn't come, I have to work harder.”
Amuzu has represented Belgium at the U-19 and U-21 levels.
