The Assemblies of God, Ghana, has cautioned its pastors and congregants to refrain from enrolling in, or presenting qualifications obtained from, tertiary institutions that lack official accreditation.
The directive comes in response to a recent announcement by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), which on Monday, 20 October 2025, published a list of 50 institutions reportedly operating without the necessary authorisation.

In a statement dated Tuesday, October 21, and signed by the church’s General Superintendent, Rev. Stephen Y. Wengam, the Assemblies of God urged its clergy to confirm the accreditation status of any educational institution with GTEC before undertaking further studies.
“To maintain the integrity of our ministerial standards, pastors are strongly advised not to pursue or present qualifications from unaccredited institutions,” the statement declared. It further warned that degrees or certificates — including doctoral and professional titles — obtained from such institutions would not be recognised within the church’s administrative framework.
Earlier, GTEC’s Director-General, Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, clarified that the affected institutions had failed to satisfy the commission’s accreditation and quality assurance criteria. He consequently advised the public and heads of educational institutions to avoid engaging with these unapproved entities.
