GOIL proved that they’re not only committed to fueling excellence but also capable of serving it on the court, as the company emerged second place at the University of Ghana Corporate Tennis Championship 2025.
The event, held on Saturday, 25th October 2025 at the University of Ghana Tennis Court, brought together top corporate institutions including Volta River Authority (VRA), Stanbic Bank Ghana, and Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) for a day of exciting matches, networking, and wellness.
Represented by a spirited team, Alex Abbey, Leo-George Borluvie, Enoch Amponsah, and Robert Lartey, GOIL delivered an impressive performance throughout the tournament.
They kicked off in style winning their first doubles match against Stanbic Bank’s duo, Hendrix Glover and Edem Kuadzi, with a 9 – 5 victory. GOIL’s Leo-George Borluvie and Enoch Amponsah went on to beat Stanbic’s Hendrix Glover and Edem Kuadzi again in the second doubles with a 9- 3 score.
In the “singles match”, GOIL’s Leo-George Borluvie put up a valiant fight but narrowly lost “5–7” to Stanbic’s “Hendrix Glover” in one of the most competitive encounters of the day.
In the finals, GOIL’s Robert Lartey and Enoch Amponsah went up against VRA’s Samuel Yaw Akotuah and Nana Kum Sam-Awortwi in the first doubles but couldn’t secure the win, losing 9–4. For the second doubles, GOIL’s Alex Abbey and Leo-George Borluvie stepped onto the court to face the same VRA duo once again.
Despite showing great energy and teamwork, GOIL narrowly fell short with a 9 – 5 score, earning GOIL a well-deserved second place finish in the competition.
With VRA securing “two wins out of three sets”, officials concluded the match without a singles decider, officially naming GOIL as the second-place team in the 2025 UG Corporate Tennis Championship.
The tournament was organized by the University of Ghana Sports and Wellness Directorate in partnership with RITE Sports Services, with additional support from Verna Water, Penfield School, and the Ghana Tennis Federation.
