Tension is mounting at the Bawjiase District Police Command in the Central Region after a group of angry Asafo members from Kasoa Ofaakor besieged the station, demanding the release of four soldiers and two National Security officers arrested during an attempt to install a new chief at Awutu Quashi Abbey in the Awutu Senya West District.
According to reports, the soldiers and National Security officers were picked up by the police after allegedly attempting to install a new chief in the area, despite the community already having a recognised traditional leader.

The Asafo members, who stormed the police station in large numbers, insisted that the detained officers be released immediately. However, police personnel at the station stood their ground, refusing to hand over the suspects.
A military pickup with registration number 52 GA 62, along with other officers, has since arrived at the Bawjiase Police Command in support of their detained colleagues, heightening tensions in the area.

Speaking to Adom News correspondent, Kofi Adjei, the leader of the Kasoa Ofaakor Asafo group, Asafo Supi Nipa-Nka, cautioned the military to desist from meddling in land and chieftaincy matters, stressing that such actions could spark unnecessary conflict within the community.
