Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah says he has no official information on why the reconstruction of the Nkawkaw Sports Stadium came to a halt.
The Nkawkaw Stadium, located in the Eastern Region, had been in a deplorable state for years before efforts by the Member of Parliament for the Abetifi Constituency, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, began to upgrade the facility.
However, despite the initial progress, the redevelopment has since been left incomplete.
Appearing before the Public Accounts Committee, Ankrah explained that the project suddenly stalled without clear communication from the implementing agencies.
“Sometime in September 2020, the then Minister for Youth and Sports cut sod for the reconstruction of the Nkawkaw Sports Stadium… and it was set to cost 27 million Ghana cedis. It was to be funded by the Middle Belt Development Authority,” he said.
“The project, however, stalled along the line and per documents or reports presented to me, there was no specific reason given,” the NSA boss added.
The NSA Director-General also noted that the Authority is yet to receive an official update on the status of the project or plans for its continuation.
