Ranking Member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has called for the immediate suspension of the ongoing recruitment exercise into the Ghana Armed Forces following Wednesday’s stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium, which has claimed six lives and left several others injured.
According to him,"The process must be halted immediately. Halt it immediately and let us prioritise lives," Rev. Fordjour said on JoyNews midday news after the incident.
He described the development as deeply tragic and said it underscores the urgent need to review the recruitment process to ensure better crowd management and safety protocols.
"As we halt it, we need to get back to the table and review the entire process," he suggested.
The lawmaker further called for a full investigation into the circumstances that led to the disaster, insisting that accountability and reform are necessary to restore public confidence in the recruitment process.
"A full investigation has to be undertaken to establish the fact, and reviews have to be put into the process for us to be able to save lives."
