The Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has announced that the Ghana Health Information Management System (GHIMS) is now actively in use at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital (CCTH), marking a major step toward a state-owned digital patient records system.
Speaking during a tour of key departments at CCTH, Mr Akandoh explained that the rollout is part of the government’s strategy to establish a permanent, state-owned electronic health platform that safeguards patient data and enhances service delivery.

He noted that recent disruptions in the nation’s electronic health systems highlighted the need for government ownership of both software and hardware to ensure continuity, data security, and seamless integration with future service providers.
The Minister also stressed the importance of patient dignity and professionalism, urging health workers to treat all clients with respect.

He acknowledged that some reforms may be challenging, but said they are essential to ensure equitable distribution of health personnel and improved healthcare services nationwide.
Mr Akandoh called for unity, constructive engagement, and a shared commitment to delivering the highest standards of care to Ghanaians.
