Deputy Communications Minister, Mohammed Adams Sukparu, says the government has successfully resolved the nationwide mobile network challenges following the allocation of additional spectrum to major telecommunications companies, including MTN and Telecel (formerly Vodafone).
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, December 2, the minister noted that earlier in the year, widespread complaints emerged over poor call quality and frequent call drops, affecting subscribers across all networks.
According to him, President John Dramani Mahama subsequently directed the Communications Ministry to take decisive action to address the situation.
This, he noted, led to the release of additional spectrum to the telcos to boost capacity and improve the quality of service.
“So government took steps by issuing spectrum to the telecommunications companies, most especially Telecel and MTN. A lot of work has gone on behind the scenes, and that is why we are all witnessing significant improvement in the quality of network service,” he said.
He reiterated that the enhanced spectrum has enabled the telcos to upgrade their systems, resulting in better call clarity and more stable connectivity nationwide.
