MTN Ghana has partnered with the University of Ghana and Defarmercist Group Limited to launch a state-of-the-art Vegetable Centre of Excellence at the University of Ghana School of Agriculture.
The centre aims to modernise agriculture, equip young farmers with practical skills, and promote sustainable farming practices.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, MTN Ghana CEO Stephen Blewett emphasised the company's commitment to supporting Ghana's agricultural transformation through technology.
"The initiative aligns with national efforts to transform the agricultural sector through technology," Mr Blewett said. "We are dedicated to supporting Ghana's agricultural modernisation and call for greater collaboration among government, academia, and the private sector."

Mr Blewett highlighted MTN Ghana's efforts to digitise the agricultural supply chain and provide unbanked farmers with access to financial services through MTN Mobile Money.
The company has also trained over 200 rural women in digital farming skills, mechanised farming, and sustainable practices.
Adwoa Afriyie Wiafe, Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer, emphasised MTN's commitment to sustainability, highlighting the solar-powered infrastructure of the centre.
"Our vision of digital solutions for Africa's progress depends on sustainability," she said.

The centre offers hands-on training in modern farming practices, preparing students for commercial agriculture.
Charles Agyemang, Co-Founder of Defarmercist Group Limited, said, "Our goal is to ensure every student gains employable skills in agriculture and becomes a profitable farmer."
The Vegetable Centre of Excellence marks a significant step towards technology-driven agriculture in Ghana, aiming to make farming a profitable and sustainable career for youth, strengthen food security, and promote innovation in the sector.

Soon after the launch, Stephen Blewett, together with partners, toured the farm to get first-hand information on the project.
