Ghana head coach Otto Addo believes Antoine Semenyo has reached a stage in his development where a move beyond AFC Bournemouth appears both “natural” and inevitable, given his progress in the Premier League.
The 25-year-old forward, who signed a long-term deal with Bournemouth in July extending to 2030, is understood to have a £65 million release clause that becomes active for a limited period in the January transfer window, according to The Athletic.
Semenyo’s performances this season — six goals and three assists in 13 league games — have reignited interest from several top English clubs. He attracted admiration from Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur last summer, and has more recently been linked with Liverpool and Manchester City.
Speaking after Friday’s World Cup draw, Addo praised the striker’s progress and hinted that a major move may now be timely.
“He has done very well at Bournemouth, but with all respect to the club and what they are doing, surely it is natural for him to take the next step,” Addo told The Athletic.
Ghana have been drawn in Group L of the 2026 World Cup alongside England, Croatia and Panama. Addo stressed that speculation around Semenyo’s future will have no bearing on his plans for the tournament.
“Whether it is in the winter or summer is a different question, but it won’t make a difference for us. I’m looking forward to him showing more of what he can do to the world.”
Should Bournemouth ward off January interest, the forward’s release mechanism will reportedly reactivate in subsequent windows — potentially at a lower valuation — keeping the door open for a future transfer.
