Medeama S.C. coach Ibrahim Tanko has credited the tactical changes for the turnaround in Sunday’s match against Berekum Chelsea.
Amo Mensah and Salim Adams scored two second-half goals for the league leaders to recover from a first-half deficit and beat Chelsea 2-1 in Tarkwa.
Speaking after the game, Ibrahim Tanko first explained his side’s first-half performance.
‘‘We controlled the game in the first half. We won many duels and second balls, created chances, but unfortunately, we could not score. The goal against us was also a result of our mistake.’’
With Medeama trailing in the second half, Tanko brought on Fatawu Sulemana, who had missed previous games with an injury, to replace Paul Yeboah at left back.
Forward Kelvin Nkrumah was also replaced by Kingsley Braye.
The changes marked the beginning of a turnaround for the league leaders.
First, Amo Mensah headed home the leveler midway through the first half, before Salim Adams produced a trademark long-range effort to settle the contest.
‘‘But in the second half, we spoke to the players and made two changes. I think the team responded well to the changes we made and we deservedly got the goals,’’ he concluded.
Medeama have now moved two points clear at the top with 26 points.
Next, they travel to Bibiani to face defending champions Gold Stars.
