Election Watch Ghana has appealed to all major political parties, particularly the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to fully participate in the forthcoming Kpandai by-election, cautioning that the credibility of Ghana’s democracy depends on broad and active engagement.
In a statement issued on Thursday, December 11, the civil society organisation underscored that inclusive participation is vital in sustaining public trust in the electoral process, especially in light of recent disputes surrounding the constituency.
This follows the Electoral Commission’s announcement on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, that the Kpandai Parliamentary Election will be rerun on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, after a High Court ruling nullified the 2024 results.

The Commission indicated that the rerun will feature only the same three candidates who contested the 2024 parliamentary poll.
However, Election Watch Ghana noted that repeated election reruns in Kpandai raise deeper questions about electoral management, while reminding political actors that they also have a duty to ensure a credible and transparent process.
“Participatory democracy thrives on inclusive engagement,” the organisation said in its statement. “We urge all eligible parties to file and contest to strengthen our electoral system.”
Election Watch Ghana further warned that boycotts or minimal participation could erode public confidence in the electoral process at a time when trust in the Electoral Commission is already fragile.
It emphasised that citizens, parties, and all stakeholders must collaborate to uphold electoral integrity, adding that strong participation is key to safeguarding Ghana’s democratic stability.
