Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has appealed to investors and industry players to prioritise sustainable investment in Africa’s film sector, describing it as a powerful tool for job creation and economic development.
She made the call at the inaugural Regal Film Festival and Awards (REFFA) 2025, held on December 13, which brought together filmmakers, producers and creative professionals to celebrate African cinema and storytelling.
Addressing participants, the Vice President encouraged especially young and emerging filmmakers to place greater emphasis on professionalism and quality, rather than focusing solely on visibility and popularity.

She stressed that African stories must be told with intention and depth if they are to compete meaningfully on the global stage, adding that authenticity and excellence remain key to international recognition.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang commended the organisers of REFFA for creating a platform that not only honours talent but also opens pathways for African films to access regional and international markets, while preserving cultural identity.

She congratulated award recipients and participants and expressed confidence in the future of the festival, describing REFFA as a promising space for nurturing young creatives and strengthening Africa’s presence in the global film industry.
