Member of Parliament for Abetifi and New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant, Bryan Acheampong, has said the party requires a bold and unifying leader to overcome its internal challenges and recapture political power in the 2028 general elections.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen programme on Tuesday, December 16, Mr Acheampong argued that the era of internal doubts, misconceptions, and prolonged preparations within the party must give way to decisive leadership focused on the present needs of the NPP and the country.
According to him, the party has moved beyond “testing the waters” and engaging in endless discussions, stressing that the moment now demands action rooted in unity, discipline, and shared purpose.
He maintained that the task ahead is not about individual ambition but about the collective future of the NPP and Ghana.
"All of that belongs to the past. The misconceptions, the talk, the testing of waters, and the preparations are over. The time is now. What we are doing is not for tomorrow, and not for ourselves alone; we are doing it for today, for our party, and for Ghana.
"There is a clear challenge within our party, and we need a leader who can unite us. We need someone the party can believe in, someone bold enough to lead us and strong enough to win power. We need a leader who can restore discipline to the party and inspire confidence that discipline will be upheld," he said.
Mr Acheampong said the party needs a leader whom members can genuinely believe in, one who is bold enough to lead, capable of restoring discipline, and trusted to steer the party back to power.
He noted that confidence in leadership is critical to rebuilding internal cohesion and winning the trust of grassroots supporters.
"We need someone who understands that, as we prepare for the 2028 elections, party supporters must be made relevant. Someone who can call on everyone and say, come, let us work together.
"We need a leader who can mobilise resources, take them to the polling stations, and empower party members on the ground to do the work required to win elections."
The Abetifi MP further emphasised the importance of making party supporters relevant as the NPP prepares for the 2028 elections.
He said supporters must feel included and motivated to work together, noting that effective mobilisation, both human and material, will be key to electoral success.
He also stressed that party members must have confidence that a leader given the mandate to contest and win elections will prioritise the welfare of the party and its members, particularly at the constituency level.
According to him, assurances must be backed by action, especially when the party returns to government.
"When you make these commitments clear to party members, it becomes easier for them to connect with you and place their trust in you. But beyond making promises, a leader must also have faith in their own capacity to deliver, because the same mouth that makes the promise must be capable of fulfilling it," he added.
