The government, under the leadership of President Mahama, will break the ground for an ambitious housing project in the Volta regional capital on Wednesday, 17th December, 2025.
Dubbed the Oxygen City, the housing project is designed to contain apartments, townhouses, service plots, commercial spaces, a golf course, and leisure facilities.

The project spearheaded by the Tema Development Corporation under the Ministry of Works and Housing is expected to ease the housing needs of residents in the catchment area.

Public opinion
The project which sparked a wide debate on social media has been identified as one of the biggest in the housing sector in the Volta Region.
Many have lauded the initiative, indicating that projects of such caliber drive development, job creation, and economic growth, applauding the government for such a decision.

There is, however, a strong appeal to the government to ensure the project is fully completed and does not turn into a white elephant, as observed in previous situations.
A section however, believes the apartment areas should contain units that a public servant can be able to purchase without breaking the bank.

Others also think a simple “hall and chamber self-contained” units should be incorporated into the housing project, strategically situated in close proximity to the Ho Airport, at Takla Agbokofe.
