The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has announced plans to commence the certification and registration of Environmental Management Practitioners in the country, in line with the Environmental Protection Act, 2025 (Act 1124).
In a public notice issued on Tuesday, January 6, the Authority said the new law mandates the EPA to regulate, certify, and maintain a register of individual experts and firms providing environmental management services across the country.

According to the EPA, the register of certified practitioners will be published on its official website and in the Environmental Bulletin established under the Act.
The Authority is also empowered to undertake environmental monitoring to ensure that approved environmental management systems and strategies are effectively implemented by regulated entities and practitioners.
The notice said the announcement is intended to alert stakeholders ahead of the forthcoming certification and registration requirements under the Act. Details on training dates, application procedures, and comprehensive guidelines are expected to be released in due course.
The EPA has urged all practitioners and stakeholders to take note of the development and prepare accordingly, as the move is expected to strengthen environmental governance and professional standards in the sector.
