The Amasaman Circuit Court has remanded Abraham Quaye, a 23-year-old security guard, for allegedly stealing GH¢200,000 from his employer.
Quaye pleaded not guilty to the charge before Mrs Akosua Anokyewaa Adjepong, the relieving judge.
Police Chief Inspector Salifu Nashiru, prosecuting, said the complainant, Francis Yeboah, is a District Manager of the Electricity Company of Ghana and owner of Nzema Guest House at Ayawaso, where Quaye worked as a security guard.
He said both the complainant and the accused resided at Ayawaso.
On November 19, 2025, the Ghana Police Administration gave Yeboah GH¢450,000 to secure ECG metres for a building construction company at Kwabenya.
Mr Yeboah placed the money in a white polythene bag and kept it in his car.
The following morning, at about 0430 hours, he asked Quaye to wash the car.
Later, when Yeboah went to his office to make payment for the metres, he detected a shortage of GH¢200,000.00.
He immediately contacted Quaye, who denied knowledge of the missing money.
The prosecution said Yeboah later observed changes in Quaye’s lifestyle, including purchases beyond his income.
On December 13, 2025, Yeboah lodged a formal complaint at the Pokuase Police Station, leading to Quaye’s arrest.
A search conducted on Quaye revealed GH¢164,000.00 in his bag, which was handed over to the complainant.
Chief Inspector Nashiru said that during investigations, Quaye admitted to taking the money and using part of it to purchase items, including an iPhone 13, a charger, Shisha, a power bank, sneakers, clothing, and other goods valued at GH¢9,010.00.
Quaye also admitted that he gave GH¢1,200.00 to his sister, GH¢200.00 each to his stepmother, mother and father, with the remainder spent on food and other needs.
After investigations, Quaye was charged and put before the court.
