The Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has asserted that Ghanaians are no longer enduring the severe economic hardships experienced under the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.
Speaking in an interview on TV3 on Saturday, January 17, 2026, Mr Kwakye Ofosu highlighted that since taking office, President John Dramani Mahama’s government has implemented policies aimed at reducing the cost of living.
“Since we came to power, we have done everything humanly possible to ensure that there is a reduction in the cost of living so that people can live meaningful lives and the sufferings they endured over the last eight years are alleviated,” he stated.
He emphasised that the government has remained committed to fulfilling its promise to ease economic pressures inherited from the previous administration.
According to the Minister, these measures are part of broader efforts to provide relief and improve living standards for ordinary Ghanaians.
Reflecting these efforts, several oil marketing companies have reduced pump prices as the second pricing window for January commenced.
State-owned GOIL has announced discounted rates at 150 selected stations nationwide, offering Super XP petrol at GH¢9.99 per litre, down from GH¢10.99, and Diesel XP at GH¢11.21 per litre, compared with GH¢11.96 previously.
Star Oil has also implemented price reductions across 175 outlets, selling Super petrol at GH¢9.97 per litre, down from GH¢10.56.
However, some stations continue to sell at the previous general price of GH¢10.56, highlighting the gradual impact of government interventions on fuel pricing.
