At least 34 people were injured in a road traffic accident involving a passenger bus at Asuboi on the Accra–Kumasi Highway in the early hours of Saturday, January 17, 2026.
The accident involved a 34-seater KIA Grandbird bus, which reportedly overturned and landed on its side in the middle of the highway, temporarily disrupting traffic on the busy route.
The Suhum Municipal Fire Station received a distress call at about 2:55 a.m. and swiftly deployed a seven-member rescue team led by Station Officer II Antwi Forson to assist at the scene.

On arrival, firefighters found the driver trapped in the wreckage, while other passengers had already been rescued by first responders and residents in the area.
Using specialised extrication equipment, the fire service safely freed the driver, who sustained serious injuries.

The other passengers suffered varying degrees of minor injuries and were conveyed to the Suhum Government Hospital for treatment. Health officials confirmed that all the injured were responding to treatment and that no deaths were recorded.

The crash caused significant damage to parts of the bus, particularly the front section, underscoring the severity of the impact. The cause of the accident is yet to be established.

Following the rescue operation, fire officers cleared debris from the road and secured the area to prevent further incidents before departing the scene at about 4:53 a.m.
