The Ghana Police Service's IGP Special Operations Team has arrested several suspects and seized quantities of illicit drugs during a series of patrols in the Tamale Metropolis.
According to Chief Inspector Tahiru Abdullai, the team received a distress call from the Gulkpe Task Force regarding the arrest of two suspects, Seidu Abu and Sulemana Mohamed, who were found in possession of Tramadol 100mg. During interrogation, Seidu Abu identified Sulemana Mohamed as the supplier of the drugs, leading to his arrest.
In a separate incident, concerned residents of the Sagnerigu community handed over Alhassan Abdul Fataw to the team after finding him in possession of 159 wraps of suspected Indian hemp, 59 tablets of Tapentadol 225m, 34 capsules of Trafradol, among others.
The police team conducted patrols in various locations, including Vitting, Wamali, and Nanton Zuo, as well as the Tamale Technical University and University for Development Studies (UDS) campuses.
"We are committed to maintaining law and order within the Tamale Metropolis," said Chief Inspector Abdullai. "Our efforts are aimed at safeguarding lives and property and ensuring a peaceful environment conducive to economic and social activities."
The suspects have been taken into custody and are awaiting further investigation and possible prosecution.
