Flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has expressed optimism that he can rally the party together should he win the presidential primary, despite the heated exchanges and tensions that have marked the campaign.
Mr Agyapong made the remarks to the media at Assin Central shortly before casting his vote.
He acknowledged that internal party contests are often fiercely competitive and can generate disagreements, but cautioned against allowing such moments to undermine party cohesion.
He explained that robust political competition can sometimes give rise to harsh language, which should be viewed as part of the democratic process rather than a source of lasting division within the party.
“I don’t see it as a problem. At the end of the day, we will all come together as one party to work. In any contest, things can get tough and certain words may be used that are not pleasant, but that is part of the process. It does not mean anyone should walk away from the party. If I am declared the winner, I believe I will be able to bring everyone together,” he said.
Mr Agyapong stressed that unity will be crucial to the NPP’s prospects after the primaries, noting that all aspirants must work collectively to strengthen the party and prepare it for future electoral battles.
