Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the 2024 running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged party members to close ranks following the election of former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2028 polls.
Reacting to the outcome in a Facebook post on Saturday, January 31, Dr Opoku Prempeh thanked party delegates for their participation and confidence in Dr Bawumia’s leadership.
“My sincere appreciation goes to all New Patriotic Party delegates who embraced our message of hope and renewal, and who have entrusted the future of our party to the capable hands of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia,” he stated.
He also lauded the overall conduct of the primaries, paying tribute to the party hierarchy and aspirants for helping to safeguard internal cohesion.
According to him, the discipline shown throughout the process reflected the NPP’s democratic credentials.
Dr Opoku Prempeh stressed that the focus must now shift from internal competition to collective purpose, warning against post-primary divisions.
“Now is the time for unity,” he said, urging members to put the party’s interests above personal ambitions.
He concluded by calling on the rank and file to rally behind the party’s flagbearer as preparations begin for the 2028 elections, noting that a united front would be essential to rebuilding and repositioning the NPP for electoral success.
