Senior Adviser to the Bawumia Campaign Team and Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, has urged supporters of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer to celebrate the party’s victory responsibly and avoid actions that could divide the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.
He said the NPP’s ability to remain united and mount a strong national campaign depends not on the candidates themselves, but on the conduct of their supporters in the aftermath of the primaries.
Speaking on Citi FM, Mr Awuku called on party faithful to focus on the bigger objective of winning the 2028 elections, setting aside personal rivalries and rallying behind the party’s newly elected flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
“For those of us who supported Dr Bawumia, our commentary should reflect his views, his persona and what he stands for. A little teasing or trolling here and there is part of politics, but it should not degenerate into divisive conduct that undermines the party,” he said.
Dr Bawumia won the NPP presidential primaries held on January 31, 2026, securing 110,643 votes, representing 56.48 per cent of the total valid votes cast. Former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, placed second with 46,554 votes, accounting for 23.76 per cent.
