Real Madrid wants to pull off a surprise in the transfer window and 'steal' a player from Barcelona. Specifically, Pedri, according to reports in Spain.
El Desmarque's Siro Lopez explained that, despite the difficulties this signing presents, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez intends to convince the Spanish midfielder to join for the 2027/28 season.
Lopez said, "The player Real Madrid wants to sign for the 2027/28 season is Pedri. You will agree with me that it would be a bombshell, on par with Luis Figo's move in the 2000/01 season. It's not just that you strengthen yourself; you take away an indispensable player from Barcelona."
"In this war, they have more Laporta with Florentino than Florentino with Laporta; the issue is not dismissible. You have to convince the player, but you already know that the knight is 'Sir Money.'
"In Pedri's case, a very serious situation is added: he is happy at Barca and also a 'cule' (Barcelona fan)," added the journalist.
Pedri to Real Madrid is an Almost Impossible Transfer
However, it is an almost impossible transfer for several reasons. Pedri is under contract until 2030, has a €1 billion release clause, and also has a strong connection with Barcelona.
Still, another journalist from the same outlet, Roberto Gomez, confirmed the information. "The player Florentino Perez wants is Pedri," he said. "I'll just say two words: Luis Figo," he added, referring to when Real Madrid 'stole' Luis Figo from Barcelona in the early 2000s.
It's easy to want Pedri, as he is considered one of the best midfielders in the world, if not the best. But another thing is the real possibilities of signing him.
Since Toni Kroos and Luka Modric left Real Madrid, it has become evident that Los Blancos need to reinforce with a creative profile in midfield, compatible with its offensive arsenal composed of Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo, and company.
There has also been talk of the possibility of PSG's Vitinha arriving in the Spanish capital, but if extracting Pedri from a financially struggling Barcelona is complicated, extracting the Portuguese from Paris is even more so.
