The Ahafo-Ano Premier Rural Bank has commissioned six boreholes to help address the persistent water crisis in parts of the Ahafo-Ano Southwest District.
The beneficiary communities include Wioso, Mankranso, Apinapomso and Apremadi in the Ashanti Region.
The intervention is aimed at providing access to clean and safe drinking water following the destruction of major water bodies by illegal mining activities, popularly known as ‘galamsey’.
Residents in some communities in the Ahafo Ano Southwest District have for years struggled to access potable water as rivers and streams have been heavily polluted and, in some cases, completely destroyed.
Speaking at the commissioning of six borehole facilitoes, the Board Chairman of Ahafo Ano Premier Rural Bank, Nii-Narko Omaboe, said the project forms part of the bank’s corporate social responsibility to improve the living conditions of people within its operational areas.
“As a rural bank operating in this district, it is our responsibility to support our communities with their pressing needs. Water is life, and we believe providing these boreholes will go a long way to improve health and sanitation in these communities,” he said.
He noted that beyond water projects, the bank remains committed to supporting health and educational infrastructure in the district and promised more developmental initiatives in the coming years.
Mr Omabo further disclosed that the bank has instituted scholarship schemes to support brilliant but needy students within the district.
He encouraged eligible students to apply, especially in where the bank operates.
