Vice Chairperson of Parliament’s Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Committee has called on the government to provide immediate psychological support to victims affected by foreign national exploitation.

According to Cletus Seidu Dapilah, failure to do so could lead to serious consequences.

"First and foremost, the victims need to be identified and given counselling. Otherwise, in the coming days, we may hear of suicides occurring,” he said.

Mr Dapilah stressed that the immediate focus should be on supporting the affected families and providing mental health services.

“The government, through the relevant ministries, should engage psychologists to counsel the victims, encouraging them that this is not the end of their life and that the future is still bright. Pain will eventually pass,” he added.

He stressed that the government should not take the situation lightly, noting that the victims’ mental and emotional recovery is as important as pursuing legal action against the suspect.

This comes after a Russian national allegedly lured Ghanaian women, recorded intimate encounters without their consent, and subsequently published the videos online, reportedly for financial gain.
