Management of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital has confirmed that a security officer on duty at the facility was assaulted in an incident that occurred earlier this week.
In a press statement dated February 20, 2026, the hospital indicated that the incident took place on February 18 at about 7:28 p.m. at the Labour Ward.
An 18-year-old male, identified as Gabriel Dimson, who had accompanied his mother and a friend to the hospital, is alleged to have attacked the officer.

According to management, the young man had been instructed to relocate to the reception area because hospital regulations prohibit visitors from loitering at the ward entrance outside approved visiting hours.
He reportedly defied the directive, pushed the officer to the ground and physically assaulted him, causing the officer to lose consciousness.
Medical personnel on duty immediately intervened, and the officer remains on admission but is responding to treatment.
The case has been reported to the Ghana Police Service at the Adabraka District Police Command. The suspect has been arrested, and investigations are ongoing with a view to prosecution.
Hospital authorities stressed that violence against staff will not be tolerated, underscoring the vital role security officers play in safeguarding patients, visitors and healthcare workers.
The statement, signed by Juliana Haruna, Head of Public Relations, also appealed to the public to respect hospital protocols and cooperate with staff to maintain a safe and orderly environment.
