A 25-year-old woman, Asare Vera, has been found guilty of manslaughter by a Koforidua High Court after admitting to pouring acid on her boyfriend, Daniel Omane, while he slept, resulting in injuries that ultimately caused his death.
Vera entered a guilty plea under a plea agreement recommending a 10-year custodial sentence. However, the court has postponed sentencing to March 22, 2026, pending the results of a pregnancy test.
The attack took place on November 29, 2024, in Koforidua. Reports indicate that Vera, who has a three-year-old child with Omane, accused him of being unfaithful before carrying out the assault.
Omane, a well-known mobile phone dealer, was hospitalised for several months following the attack.
He later succumbed to his injuries on July 25, at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra and has since been laid to rest.
