A first-year student of St. Louis Senior High School, Gladys Boateng, affectionately called ‘Gaza’, has been awarded a full university scholarship after her outstanding performance at the 2026 Ashanti Regional Inter-Schools Athletics Championship.
Her stellar performance caught the attention of the District Chief Executive for Amansie West, Prince Manu Morris, who announced a full university scholarship for the talented athlete at a gathering in recognition of her exceptional display at the regional championship.
“The Assembly will give her [Gaza] a full scholarship from the first day at the University until she completes,” Prince said. “Whatever she will need in her education and career, we are ready to support”.
Gaza was also presented with a plaque on behalf of the Manso Nkwanta Omanhene.
The young sprinter dominated the girls’ sprint events, winning gold in both the 100m and 200m races. Gaza clocked an impressive 11.69 seconds to win the 100m final before returning to record 23.93 seconds in the 200m to complete a remarkable double.
Gaza’s exploits did not end with the sprint double. She was also adjudged the Best Female Track Athlete at the championship, further underlining her dominance at the competition. In the male category, Blessed of St. Hubert Seminary Senior High School was named the Best Male Track Athlete.
Her performance has once again highlighted the ability of Ghana’s inter-school athletics competitions to produce elite young talents.
For Gaza, many believe she could be one of the next big names in Ghanaian athletics if her development continues on the right path.
