Former Interior Minister Henry Quartey has expressed sympathy for the current Interior Minister, Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the Ghana security services recruitment.
Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Quartey said he understands the intense pressure that comes with supervising security service recruitment.
“I know what it feels like to be in that seat,” he explained, reflecting on his own experience in the position. “Issues like this can affect a minister both personally and politically.”
He added that ministers responsible for recruitment often face pressure from multiple quarters, including members of their own political party pushing for the inclusion of their preferred candidates.
Mr. Quartey noted that, given these challenges, he would not directly blame Minister Muntaka for the difficulties surrounding the exercise. Instead, he placed responsibility on the National Democratic Congress, saying the situation is largely due to how the party has handled the recruitment process.
