The Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa, Sulemana Braimah, has accused the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Okudzeto Ablakwa, and other officials of dishonesty over their statements regarding the airworthiness of the state’s presidential jet.
Before the December 2024 elections, Mr Ablakwa and other senior National Democratic Congress (NDC) figures had criticised former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for opting to use expensive private jets instead of the country’s presidential aircraft, which they claimed was fully operational.
However, following the NDC’s electoral victory, President John Dramani Mahama and Mr Ablakwa also chose to forgo the state’s jet, opting instead to use a private aircraft owned by the President’s brother, Ibrahim Mahama.
Commenting on the development on JoyFM's Super Morning Show on Monday, March 16, Mr Braimah said that the actions of Mr Ablakwa and others who had previously criticised the former president were inconsistent and dishonest.
"NPP at this stage will be right to say you guys were criticising us, now you want to go for it, but again, that is politics. I think that at this stage, it is fine to say that those who were claiming that the presidential jet was in a pristine stage, my friend Okudzeto Ablakwah and co, perhaps were dishonest," he said.
"Otherwise, maybe they have to provide us with the evidence to show us that indeed it was airworthy, and if it was, why is that two years later we are told that it is not airworthy?" he argued.
He expressed disappointment that the issue has been politicised rather than addressed transparently, emphasising that public trust is undermined when officials play politics with matters of national interest.
