A 26-year-old unemployed man has been remanded into prison custody by the Toase District Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti Region for committing three offences at Atwima-Mim.
Sumaila Latif pleaded not guilty to the charges of causing damage, unlawful entry and stealing and will be brought back to court on March 24, this year.
Police Inspector Kwaku Frimpong, prosecuting, told the court presided over by Robert Addo that both complainants, Clement Akprebadigi and Latif, resided in the same house at Atwima-Mim.
He said on March 04, 2026, at about 11 pm, the complainant returned home from work and saw the main door to his room broken into and after a careful inspection, he detected the theft of his DVD player, Samsung television set, itel key pad, multi-TV decoder, two smart phones, assorted men’s wear, soft drinks and bottled water, as well as GH¢6,000 cash, all valued at GH¢10,000 from the room.
According to the Prosecution, the complainant suspected Latif, and, in his own investigation, he saw him wearing a shirt and a pair of trousers. He reported the matter to the Nkawie police, and Latif was arrested.
In his caution statement, he denied the offences and mentioned one Labista as the true owner of the outfit, but failed to identify or lead police to locate the said Labista. During investigations in his room, some of the stolen items were identified by the complainant.
After further investigations, he was charged and brought before the court.
