Ghana has taken another step towards strengthening digital governance with the commencement of the National AI Masterclass – Akuse Cohort 2, aimed at building artificial intelligence capacity within the public sector.
The five-day programme, running from March 21 to 25, is being organised by the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations in collaboration with AI Africa and Knowledge Web Center.
It brings together deputy directors, senior officers and equivalent-level professionals from various government institutions.

Welcoming participants, the Chief Director of the Ministry, Alexander Yaw Arphul, underscored the importance of equipping public sector workers with practical digital skills to support modern governance.
He noted that such initiatives are critical to improving efficiency, enhancing service delivery and positioning Ghana within the global digital economy.

The training, facilitated by Dr David King Boison, focuses on advancing participants beyond basic AI knowledge to the development of integrated intelligence systems that can support policy formulation and national development.
“AI alone is not enough; true national transformation requires the integration of human judgment, strategy, ethics and multiple forms of intelligence,” he stated.

Also speaking at the programme, the Director for Digital Technology, Dr Samuel Antwi-Gyekye, said the initiative aligns with efforts to support Ghana’s 24-hour economy policy.

He revealed that about 100 public officials have already been trained under the programme, equipping them with the skills needed to apply artificial intelligence in governance and development planning.
