The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has advised party members to prioritise unity and cohesion within the party to ensure electoral success.

“I beg you, no campaign can secure you victory better than unity. If you are divided, no matter how your individual effort in campaigning will be, you’ll still lose”, he stated.

Mr Nketiah said this at Boli when he addressed some chiefs and people in the Wa Central Constituency and party faithful as part of his thank-you tour of the Upper West Region.

He acknowledged the relative harmony within the party in the constituency and the region in general, which helped secure victory for the party in the 2024 general elections.

The NDC Chairman observed that misunderstandings were inevitable within the party but that such misunderstandings should be managed constructively in order not to destabilise the party.

“You can rock the boat, but don’t rock it too violently so that it creates problems for all of us”, he stated.

Mr Nketiah expressed appreciation to the traditional leaders in the Municipality and the region as a whole for their support to deliver victory to the party in the 2024 general election.

He disclosed that a committee established by the President to assess districts across the country for possible upgrades had recommended the elevation of the Wa Municipality to metropolitan status.

He explained that the upgrade would come with increased resource allocation to enhance development and job creation in the Municipality.

The Party Chairman also recognised the efforts of the party’s leaders, especially at the grassroots level, in securing all eleven parliamentary seats for the party, but urged them to intensify efforts to retain the seats in subsequent elections.

In the Wa West District, Mr Nketiah announced that the committee had also recommended that the Wa West District be upgraded to municipal status.

Addressing chiefs and people at Dorimon, Mr Nketiah explained that the proposed upgrade would increase the District Assembly’s share of the common fund and improve development planning and job creation.

He urged the chiefs and people of the district to actively participate in governance processes and development initiatives, stressing that collective involvement was essential to sustain development.

Meanwhile, Naa Alhaji Seidu Tungbani Salinbile II, the Paramount Chief of the Dorimon Traditional Area, lamented that the development trends in the district over the years had placed Dorimon at a disadvantaged position.

He emphasised that the inequitable distribution of development projects within the district could be addressed with the creation of a new district for the Dorimon Traditional Area.

“For us in this traditional area, the only solution to these inequities is for Dorimon to have a separate district. That is non-negotiable”, he stressed.

Naa Salinbile also cited the abandoned Wa-Dorimon road and the Dorimon E-Block projects as critical infrastructure in the Dorimon area that needed urgent attention.
