The government of Côte d’Ivoire has reaffirmed its support for Morocco's territorial integrity and sovereignty, including over the Sahara region.
The position was announced in a joint communiqué issued after talks in Rabat between Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and Côte d’Ivoire’s Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Nialé Kaba.
Nialé Kaba, who is on her first working visit to Morocco, reiterated Côte d’Ivoire’s “constant support” for Morocco’s sovereignty over all its territory, including the Sahara.
She also reaffirmed her country’s backing for Morocco’s Autonomy Plan as a basis for resolving the dispute.
According to the communiqué, Côte d’Ivoire welcomed the adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797 on October 31, 2025.
The resolution endorses, within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty, Morocco's autonomy plan as “the only serious, credible, and lasting basis” for a political solution to the Sahara dispute.
For his part, Nasser Bourita expressed appreciation for Côte d’Ivoire’s continued support.
He noted that Côte d’Ivoire’s decision to open a Consulate General in Laayoune on February 18, 2020, demonstrated the strength of relations between the two countries.
The Moroccan foreign minister described the move as “tangible proof” of the strategic partnership between Rabat and Abidjan.
