The Twafohene of Sefwi Sayerano, Nana Kwasi Sampa, is demanding answers over the police shooting incident that claimed two lives and left three others injured in the community.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show, Nana Kwasi Sampa said he heard several gunshots before rushing to the scene, where he saw police officers firing shots.
“I heard several gunshots, and when I came out, I saw that the police were firing shots. I was told to hurry because people had been killed outside,” he said.
According to him, when he arrived at the scene, he found two people dead, while three others who sustained serious injuries had been taken to the hospital for treatment.
“When I got there, two people had been killed, and three others who were seriously injured had been taken to the hospital,” he added.
The chief said the incident caused tension among residents, as angry youth gathered in the town following the shootings.
“When it happened, the youth became angry and the situation became very tense in the town,” Nana Kwasi Sampa stated.
He explained that after the incident, community leaders reported the matter to the Divisional Police Command in the area around 4:00 pm.
“We went to report the case to the Divisional Police Command in the town. When we reported, they asked the assembly member and the committee members to bring the guns involved,” he said.
Nana Kwasi Sampa confirmed that the victims were all residents of Sefwi Sayerano.
His comments follow a police shooting incident at Asempaneye Forest near Sefwi Sayerano in the Juaboso District of the Western North Region, which resulted in the deaths of two residents.
The incident occurred after a confrontation between residents and a police patrol team during an operation to arrest a suspected drug peddler.
Following the shooting, a police post at Asempaneye Forest was set ablaze by unidentified persons.
The incident has left the Sefwi Sayerano community in mourning, with emotional scenes witnessed as relatives and residents accompanied the bodies of the two deceased victims to the morgue at Sefwi Asafo.
Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and the subsequent destruction of the police post.
