Assemblies of God, Ghana, has urged its pastors, members and the wider Christian community to take part in the nationwide clean-up exercise scheduled for July 10 and 11, describing it as a critical response to the recent floods that claimed lives and destroyed property across parts of the country.
In a statement issued on July 9 and signed by the General Secretary of Assemblies of God, Ghana, Rev. Dr. Ernest Birikorang, the church said the clean-up exercise should mark the beginning of a renewed national commitment to environmental sanitation and flood prevention, while also calling for stronger political will and practical measures to tackle the country’s recurring flooding crisis.
The church expressed condolences to families who lost loved ones in the floods and sympathised with those whose homes and properties were affected.
“Assemblies of God, Ghana, deeply condoles with families of Ghanaians and other nationals who lost their loved ones and profoundly sympathises with those whose properties were destroyed in the horrendous floods,” the statement said.
According to the church, the recurring floods highlight the urgent need for decisive action to protect lives and reduce the destructive impact of the disaster across the country.
It described the national clean-up exercise as “the first test of our resolve as Ghanaians to change the pitiable narrative and open a new chapter of environmental cleanliness and sanitation consciousness.”
Assemblies of God, Ghana, therefore called on all its pastors, members and other faith-based organisations to actively participate in the exercise in their respective communities.
The church stressed that environmental cleanliness should not be treated as an occasional activity but as a continuous civic and moral responsibility.
“We understand that faith is not just private devotion — it is also public action,” the statement noted, adding that Christians must demonstrate their values through acts of environmental stewardship that benefit society.
