The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMET) has forecast thunderstorms and rain over parts of northern and transition belt communities on Wednesday, while much of southern Ghana is expected to remain under mostly cloudy skies with patches of mist and fog during the early hours.
According to the agency's 18-hour weather forecast valid from 6:00 a.m. on July 22, a few locations in the northern and transition sectors are likely to experience rain accompanied by occasional thunder during the morning.
In southern Ghana, mist and fog are expected to develop over coastal, forest and mountainous areas, reducing visibility for motorists and other road users. Some communities may also experience light rain or drizzle during the morning hours.
GMET said weather conditions are expected to improve later in the day as a mix of sunshine and cloud cover prevails across most parts of the country.
However, the agency cautioned that thunderstorms and rain are likely to redevelop over sections of the northern sector, as well as parts of the transition and middle belts, from late afternoon into the evening.
Forecast temperatures are expected to range from minimum values of 21°C in parts of the transition belt to 24°C in the north, while maximum temperatures could reach 33°C in northern Ghana. Coastal areas are expected to record temperatures between 23°C and 29°C, with the forest zone ranging from 23°C to 30°C.
The forecast indicates that Accra and Winneba could experience slight morning rain before becoming variably cloudy later in the day, while Takoradi, Axim, Koforidua, Kumasi and other forest communities are expected to wake up to misty conditions.
Northern towns, including Tamale, Bolgatanga, Wa, Damongo and Nalerigu, are forecast to experience a mix of morning cloudiness and sunny intervals before the possibility of late afternoon or evening thunderstorms in some areas.
GMET also indicated that the state of the sea will remain calm, making conditions generally favourable for marine activities.
The agency has advised the public, particularly motorists travelling through areas prone to mist and fog, to exercise caution due to reduced visibility. Residents in communities likely to experience afternoon and evening thunderstorms are also encouraged to monitor weather updates and take the necessary precautions.
